In a recent blog, Michael Croft, the creator of the SPICE Framework questioned some of the talk about ‘purpose’ and about ‘purpose-driven’ people and organisations. It wasn’t that Michael was questioning in anyway the idea that people and businesses should be focused on an end-goal. Far from it. He was simply questioning firstly the quality and depth of many insights offered on the subject by many a consultant and secondly, he was drawing people’s attention to the roots of conversations about purpose. Michael pointed out that the source of conversations about purpose are in the philosopher, Aristotle in the 4th century BC and his insight that if we fulfil our purpose then we find happiness. For Aristotle such happiness was as much about well-being and a good life as anything else. It would be interesting to learn about other’s people’s take on purpose and happiness for that matter.
